You can find different types of Airfares with United Airlines ranging from Basic, Economy , Economy Plus, Premium Cabin. Let's explore them one by one :



Basic Economy

For most trips you can only bring one personal item when you’re flying in Basic Economy. 

You can’t bring a carry-on bag unless you’re flying to South America, across the Atlantic or across the Pacific. All other bags have to be checked. 

Note, if you check a carry-on at your gate, you’ll be charged the standard bag fee plus an additional $25.

If you’re a MileagePlus members with Premier status, traveling with a Premier member, are the primary card member of a qualifying MileagePlus credit card or a Star Alliance Gold member you can bring one free carry-on bag.

Save on your ticket price and get most of the same in-flight services as standard Economy, like drinks, snacks, and in-flight entertainment. Make sure to check the rules and restrictions before booking.

Carry On Baggage : Carry-on bags are not included unless you're flying to Canada, South America, across the Atlantic or on an international flight across the Pacific. You can prepay to check a bag or check a carry-on at your gate for the regular bag fee plus an additional $25.

Checked Baggage : If your flight across the Pacific is international, you get one free checked bag.


For MileagePlus Premier members or cardholders

You get one free carry-on if you’re a MileagePlus member with Premier status, traveling with a Premier member, or are the primary card member of a qualifying MileagePlus credit card or a Star Alliance Gold member.

We’ll pick a seat for you and automatically assign it to you before boarding.

Sitting with your family

If you’re traveling with a child under 12, we have new tools that make it easier for them to sit next to a family member for free. Otherwise, we can’t guarantee your family or group will all sit together so consider buying a seat assignment in advance.


Changes and Cancellations

While changes may not be allowed, you can cancel your flight for a refund within 24 hours according to our flexible booking policy. You can then book a new trip if you want. You can also cancel your trip after 24 hours for a partial travel credit.

Preferred seating

A preferred seat is a United Economy seat that’s closer to the front of the plane. MileagePlus members can earn Premier Qualifying Points (PQP) for buying preferred seats, and MileagePlus Premier members can choose preferred seats for free.

You can now use miles to upgrade on United and United Express flights within the U.S. Pay for preferred seating and Economy Plus with miles when you book an Economy or Basic Economy ticket.
