Over 50 Islands make up the Republic of Singapore. Singapore, is a city-state located just above the equator, at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula. Singapore is the largest port in Southeast Asia and one of the busiest in the world. It owes its growth and prosperity to its focal position at the southern extremity of the Malay Peninsula. Singapore is in the equatorial monsoon region of Southeast Asia, and its climate is characterized by uniformly hot and sticky weather conditions throughout the year.


Singapore is mainly dependent on Malaysia for food and water supplies as only few thousand acres of evergreen rain forest preserved around catchment areas.

The population of Singapore is diverse but over-crowded. The country wealth is based on shipping, banking and international trade.

Singaporeans practice intensive activities—especially communications and information and financial services—which are less dependent on foreign investment.

Higher productivity and research and development are encouraged through schemes that provide investment credits and allowances. 

Singapore has one of the world’s busiest ports in terms of shipping tonnage. The Port of Singapore Authority oversees all shipping activity and operates a number of terminals on the island. Containerized cargo accounts for more than half of the general-cargo tonnage. The laws in Singapore are strict. Personal freedom is limited but the crime rate is lowest in the world. Singapore has a good network of transport. Singapore is linked by rail to Malaysia via the connecting causeway at Johor. Singapore’s international airport, Changi, at the eastern end of the main island, is a major regional and overseas air hub.
